Our Process

3. Scheduling: Our service centre is always bustling with activity. Once we’ve discussed the plan, we’ll provide an estimated start date. If parts need ordering, we’ll handle that too.
4. The Deep Dive: Servicing an LP12 is an art. We meticulously strip it down to its individual components. If we encounter any unexpected issues, we’ll reach out for your input.
5. Rejuvenation: Every component is cleaned, realigned, and, where necessary, replaced. Common replacements include springs and grommets. Following this, the turntable is rebuilt, incorporating any upgrades you’ve chosen.
6. The Finishing Touches: This is where our expertise truly shines. Setting up the turntable involves a delicate balance of various elements: the speed, the suspension’s ‘bounce’, the arm cable and earth lead dressing, and the precise geometry of the arm and cartridge. The Investment

For the Linn LP12, a comprehensive service is priced at £200.00, which includes a brand-new belt. For other turntables, the cost can vary based on their condition, but as a general guide, you can expect to invest between £50.00 to £100.00 for our top-tier service.

The R410, which took three years to develop, is the inaugural model from Ruark’s anticipated 100 Series. While details about the entire series are still under wraps, the R410 promises a harmonious blend of stunning aesthetics and audiophile-grade sound.

Features and Functionality.

Designed with streaming at its core, the R410 doesn’t neglect traditional music enthusiasts. It allows connections to legacy devices such as turntables or CD drives. The system also boasts DAB/DAB+/FM & Internet radio capabilities.

For those who value connectivity, the R410 offers a plethora of options:

• Physical connections like Toslink digital input (supporting up to 24-bit/192kHz) and an HDMI port with eARC support. The latter can serve as an alternative to a soundbar when paired with a TV.
• RIAA phono input for turntables.
• Wireless features include Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect, AirPlay 2, and built-in Chromecast. On the Bluetooth front, it supports aptX-HD for high-resolution audio playback.

Ruark has equipped the R410 with a “powerful” processor, ensuring a swift user experience. This is particularly evident when using the RotoDial controller and interacting with compatible apps.

Aesthetics.

The R410’s design draws inspiration from the 1970s. It boasts a hand-crafted grille and a cabinet made from sustainable woods. These woods undergo a unique process where they are “spliced, coloured, and recomposed” to mimic slow-growing hardwoods. This ensures a consistent colour and pattern over time. The high-resolution colour display is portrait-oriented, mirroring the way people use their smartphones.

Ruark’s signature RotoDial has been a staple in their products. With the R410, they’ve refined its design, making it even more tactile. The system also comes with a rechargeable remote among other accessories.

Sound Quality.

The R410 is powered by a new generation of digital amplifiers. These are touted to offer “high efficiency and output with ultra-low distortion”. Additionally, Burr-Brown DACs handle the digital/analogue audio conversion. The system aims to fill any room with music, delivering 120W of Class D power. It features silk dome tweeters, long-throw NS+ mid/bass units, and dual bass enclosures to enhance bass performance.

Available in walnut brown and grey finishes, the Ruark R410 is priced at an RRP of £1299.

We’ve recently launched a tranche of new moving coil cartridges which make it easier to move through the hierarchy of Linn performance (through a Linn Coil LP12 Cartridge Upgrade). This is a welcome boost to those looking for their first Linn experience, and it will be a welcome relief to those who’ve been waiting to take the next step into the world of serious Linn ownership.

Ekstatik (Introduced: 2020)

At the top end of Linn performance lies our flagship, all-new MC cartridge Ekstatik. The most expensive in our range, it combines the latest in microlinear technology with an ultra-sensitive, fixed nude stylus. It is the ultimate expression of Linn’s ‘Full Integrated’ design philosophy and reflects the company’s commitment to creating audiophile-grade turntables.

There are two options available, the Ekstatik MM with a Cirkus bearing or the Ekstatik MC with a Keel subchassis.

Kendo (Introduced: 2020)

For those who already have a Linn Sondek LP12 and are in need of some extra performance, our eager apprentice Kendo is an excellent upgrade option. Its boron stylus is a perfect match for the Arko tonearm, and its nickel-coated 7075-grade aluminium body, which has been specially crafted to match the specific grade of aluminium used on the Arko, facilitates superb material synergy throughout the tonearm system.

The Kendo can be fitted to any Sondek LP12 or retrofitted as an upgrade to existing owners of Arko and legacy Linn cartridges. The sonic leap it makes is simply staggering.

Krane (Introduced: 2020)

A static-balanced tonearm, the Krane is an upgrade option for Sondek LP12s with earlier Pro-Ject or Jelco-made tonearms. With a laser etched scale for accurate and repeatable VTA adjustment, and an adjustable headshell design for effective length, Krane offers easy, repeatable setup without the need for complex alignment procedures.

Another upgrade for the Sondek LP12 is Karousel, a single point bearing replacement that is now fitted as standard to all new LP12s. Its substantial lock-nut fastening increases rigidity at the critical point where bearing and sub-chassis come together, and forum users have reported a huge improvement in sound quality with this addition to their systems.

It’s always a good idea to add some Linn upgrades when you purchase your turntable or, if you are thinking about upgrading an existing one, to make sure that you are getting the best possible experience for the money.

The LP12’s subchassis is one of its weak points, and so there is a great deal of interest in ensuring that it is not subjected to any unnecessary vibrations while it’s being used as part of an audio system. In particular, it’s well known that the Cirkus bearing can suffer from unwanted resonances in the ‘pocket’ around the flange of the bearing. The Cirkus upgrade is a great way to avoid this, but the Keel upgrade is also an attractive alternative.
